Moon Landing 50th Anniversary 1000 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle

In July 1969 a record-breaking 600 million people watched live TV coverage of the Apollo 11 lunar landing.  Apollo’s prime mission was to “Perform a manned lunar landing and return”.  The mission was inspired by President John F. Kennedy’s 1961 announcement that the USA should send an American safely to the moon before the end of the decade.  The three-man crew (Commander Neil Armstrong, Lunar Module Pilot Edwin (Buzz) Aldrin and Command Module Pilot Michael Collins) undertook the nine-day mission, which saw Armstrong and Aldrin walk on the moon’s surface and collect valuable rock samples. They left behind them a plaque that included the text “We came in peace for all mankind”, alongside commemorative medals bearing the names of American astronauts and Russian cosmonauts who died during the quest to be first to reach the moon.
